Welcome to our new weekly newsletter. Here are the top stories that caught our eye:

Consumer bills

There has been wide coverage on the expected price increases to the household Price Cap energy tariff in April. Some reliable commentary here:

Expectations are that the price cap will increase to approximately £1,925 per annum for a typical dual fuel customer – an increase of around 50% on the prevailing level. And to climb still further to well in excess of £2,000 per annum in Autumn.

Citizens’ Advice are expecting energy to become a whopping 33% of the average unemployment benefit, to jump again to 38% in October…

What can and should the government do to help consumers? Some options explained.

Online ads have a higher carbon footprint than that of a household’s energy for a whole year

Gas

UK homes losing heat up to three times faster than European neighbours.

Even if Russia doesn’t invade Ukraine, it may still lead to blackouts in the UK due to our reliance on Russian gas

Electric vehicles

All electric vehicle sales are on the dramatic rise - 23% in December compared to last year and 5% more than hybrids.
